Sean Penn’s Infernal Divine Comedy

"They are not our toilet. They are a country of human beings whose lives, while once oppressed by Saddam, are now lived in Dante's Inferno." - Sean Penn 03/24/07
"What are you people — on dope?" - Mr. Hand (Fast Times At Ridgemont High)
Eight hundred fine folks gathered in Oakland, California on Saturday to hear political thespian Sean Penn as he joined Oakland Representative Barbara Lee (the lone vote against responding to 9/11) in demanding a preemptive surrender in Iraq. Penn, whose most memorable contribution to our culture is the line "awesome, totally awesome!", expanded a bit on that vocabulary by telling Bush and his "smarmy pundits" to "take your war and shove it." At least according to the SFGate (more on that later).
Was I the only one expecting Penn to utter "Duh…" in between each sentence?
Penn proceeded to dust off this tired anti-war paradox: "Let's make this crystal clear: We do support our troops, but not the exploitation of them and their families." Of course, he did say it was "crystal clear" so who am I to pick on him? Since the "exploitation of them" is obviously referring to their mission, then how exactly is he 'supporting' them? Well, he's protecting them, right? After all, they are victims; mindless, pathetic children (specifically, the thousands who have enlisted since the war began) who need the support of an arrogant, empty-headed actor.
But it's Penn's admission that the left have no grasp of the concept of tyranny that interests me. He appears to believe that human beings would prefer a brutal but stable dictatorship to the chaotic birthing of liberty.
Here are a few more gems of insight by Professor Penn. The first two make for an interesting side note: what is the San Francisco Gate hiding in their coverage of Penn's rant?
Penn quoted in the SFGate:
"You and your smarmy pundits — and the smarmy pundits you have in your pocket — can take your war and shove it."
Penn's actual words according to a transcript of the event:
"Well, you and the smarmy pundits in your pocket, those who bathe in the moisture of your soiled and bloodstained underwear, can take that noise and shove it."
Am I missing something here or have SFGate staff writers Carolyn Jones and Cecelia M. Vega just create an almost entirely new quote out of thin air? Maybe they found the "underwear" reference too tasteless to print but couldn't pass up the "shove it" contribution by Penn? So they incorporated the latter into something a little less incoherent and a little more embraceable by even their readership. It's as if they took the words "smarmy pundit", "pocket" and "shove it" and just decided to print what they felt he should have said! Anybody care to explain this one?
But I digress…on to Penn and that politeness and rationale that the Left are always demanding:
"And I got a question for your daughters, Mr. Bush. They're not children anymore. Do they support your policy in Iraq? If they do, how dare they not be in uniform, while the children of the poor; black, white, Asian, Hispanic, and all the other American working men and women are slaughtered, maimed and flown back into this country under cover of darkness."
I 'got' a question for you, Sean (Mr. Hand would be so disappointed!). Do you get your information from anywhere other than the Huffington Post? Penn 'supports' the troops by insulting them, either dishonestly or inaccurately. In this favorite caricature of the military, the fighting forces in Iraq are not only 'exploited', but they are exploited poor minorities. Victims. Can he be any more condescending to the men and women serving?
As far as Bush's daughters…does Robin Wright support your views on Iran? If she does, how dare she not be living there while the women of that "great country" are oppressed and treated like pets and property.
"In that country of 25 million, these children have now suffered minimally, a rainstorm of civilian death around and among them totaling the equivalent of two hundred September 11ths in just four years of war. Two hundred 9/11s. Two hundred 9/11s."
Adding to the lunacy, Penn expects to be taken seriously while referencing the debunked Lancet Study which guessed over 600,000 Iraqi deaths since the invasion. But his delusional nature helps to explain why he would think this:
"Iran is a great country. A great country. Does it have its haters? You bet. Just like the United States has its haters."
After equating the atmosphere in Iran to that of the US, Penn goes on to compare their corrupt leadership with ours, their nuclear ambitions to our nuclear status and somehow comes to the conclusion that if we were to go to war with Iran, they cease to being "one of the most promising future allies in decades."
A "great country" should describe a country that you would want to live in. Would Sean like to pack up Ms. Wright, his son and his daughter and whisk them off to settle down in Iran? Would they find it to be so "great"?
Penn also seems to think that an effective way to combat terrorism would be to fund levy projects in New Orleans. He also appears to suggest that he would prefer the war fought here in the US rather than Iraq, because "[duh...]Iraq is not our toilet."
To summarize the mind of an ignorant, arrogant child, Penn leaves us with this insight:
"As things stand today, I will be voting for Dennis Kucinich…"
Perhaps Sean Penn would consider taking some of his own thoughtful advice: take this noise and shove it!

Since Mr. Penns loyalities seem to lie with these power crazy cruel dictator’s who take rights that are GOD given away and the country lives under seige going without food, medical care some afflicting tortures on the innocent and EVEN their own family members, they are that wicked while the dictators live rich never thinking about the little person who might need a meal or be suffering. Sean Penn is rubbing elbows with …..the devil himself and he better watch out for what he gets in return. These dictators are outspoken criminals, and tyrannts who rule their own countries with fear and violence, taking away their countrymans diginity and rights, to BE FREE and of happy, ruling with fear and threats and worse torture, his alliances with these dictators who would like to see this counrty gone or in their control and what America stands for gone from the face of this planet. This really allows us a look inside the man…. Penn and his beliefs and what he has come to represent in these past few years ………. GOD BLESS AMERICA
I think a good question is…why? What motivates the Sean Penn’s of the world? It can’t be idealism; it can’t be fairness; it can’t be peace. Why do people like him allow themselves (and their celebrity) to be used by the worlds worst people? Is Penn a bad person with bad intentions? Or is he extremely ignorant of just what it is he advocates?
